I finally took down the string of paper hearts and I gobbled the last of the Valentine m&ms. It’s over, sigh. But thankfully spring seems to be just around the corner (wishful thinking?) and I have a fabulous trip to Paris to fantasize about.
a letter for a blushing bride
My oldest friend Kristin got married in October and I had the honor of being a bridesmaid. I wanted to write her a letter, call it a toast on paper, to commemorate the occasion. I know she will have lots of wedding gifts, photos and memories to mark the day. But for me, nothing beats a letter– fitting too, considering the crazy amount of note passing we did back in the day. Forgive me, my time management was suffering that week so I penned from my airline tray table (and photographed with my iPhone).
praise for perrier
I drink sparkling water, ice tea, and wine–almost exclusively. My penguin SodaStream usually does the trick, but since I discovered these skinny cans of Perrier, and I have been drinking little else. The hint of grapefruit is so subtle and yet so delicious. I felt it necessary to let the folks at Perrier know just how delicious.
letters + stationery for Katie + Anne
I just looooove mail! The best mail comes from readers and like-minded letter writers. A couple of weeks ago, I opened up p.o. box 1219 and not one, but two letters were waiting for me. Yay! Both ladies made promises to write more letters in 2013, so I decided to send them each a letter and some supplies to help them make good on their goal.
birthday wishes (and onion dip) for Tory
One of the many perks of coupling up is making new friends. I met Tory and his fiance Brittany a few years back thanks to Adam. We became fast friends and have spent the last two summers together at the beach. Tory is the best story-teller I know. And he gives great hugs. But best of all, he has a dachshund named Zeus who serves as his unofficial sidekick (I’m a sucker for dogs!). On Saturday night we celebrated Tory’s 30th birthday with a gathering at their apartment followed by too many celebratory cocktails at a nearby bar. Naturally, I used the birthday as an excuse to make the most delicious onion dip.
Love Notes
Letters are the best! Even a quick scribble of adoration brightens a day. My Mom would jot notes on my napkin (and a kiss), while packing my school lunches–they were almost as good as my Publix chocolate-chip cookies! And when I was old enough, I wrote her notes and hid them deep in her suitcase for discovery mid-trip (she was a flight-attendant and traveled weekly).
The World’s Smallest Post Service
A while back my Mom and I found ourselves in Chicago. And a trip to Chicago is not complete without a stop (read: a full hour of browsing + buying) at Greer. Greer is one of my all-time favorite stationery shops. As I’ve mentioned before, Chandra’s expertly curated collection is what my dreams are made of, really. But I digress. As I was paying for my discoveries I noticed “The World’s Smallest Post Service” and swooned. A girl of my stature (5’11”) is easily awed by small things. My Mom surprised me with it weeks later.
a letter for Shannan
I’m always “chuffed to bits” when readers contact me. Email, post-box, even a thumbs up on facebook–it’s all gravy. I write letters because I enjoy correspondence (and paper of course). But boy is it nice to know you dear readers are out there!
cheers for Adam
Is there a greater feeling than receiving recognition for a job well done? Adam had his annual review at work and knocked it out of the park. I am so proud of him! And its always nice to have a reason to pause and celebrate.
Thoughts for Jen
My coworker Jen recently got some disconcerting health news about her brother. Tests are being run and naturally minds are running wild. I really admire her positive attitude despite the circumstances and have been keeping her in my thoughts. Sometimes, its nice to hear from someone else that it’s just not fair.
